Exhibiting Artists:
Scott Arnaz - Redding Library
Scott was primarily self-taught and through trial and error learned to "see" an image amongst the chaos of nature. He believes that if you take the time, you can capture a great image in the field rather than make it at home on your computer. In these technological times, less and less time is spent outdoors and he hopes that his photography inspires people to venture out and realize that we need to conserve our remaining wild spaces. A person does not need to travel far to find nature.
Jan Cameron - Redding City Hall
Jan is a Redding native and was an apprentice to Felipe Ortega, who is a master in the traditional micaceous potter techniques of the northern Rio Grande. Her pieces are built using the coil and scrape method, stone polished, and pit fired. She produces a limited number of works that reflect traditional values as well as her own cultural background.
Jim Coats - Redding City Hall
Jim picked up his first camera, a Pentax Spotmatic F, while in college in the early 70's. During those early years, he mostly shot action images - racing, both auto and motorcycle and even did a three-year stint as track photographer for Shasta Speedway. Then he essentially left photography for nearly 25 years, returning to it about 8 years ago. . . this time in the digital era. Now retired, Jim enjoys shooting landscapes, events, travel and people and looks forward to shooting more with the time that retirement has allowed.
Gene Knaebel - Redding City Hall
Technology has opened up new opportunities for photographers. It has liberated us from the darkroom and given us the same freedom of expression as painters. We can now significantly change shapes and colors and combine several images into one. Gene's favorites are panoramas, composites and infrared black & whites.
Gwen Knaebel - Redding City Hall
Gwen Knaebel specializes in photographic and digital art and abstract painting. Allowing her art to emerge during its creation, she captures and transmits energy to her art by focusing on color and form. Visiting art museums and galleries is one of her favorite activities. Gwen, an educator, has traveled to the far reaches of the earth to see the world's art treasures. In Redding, California where she lives with her husband Gene Knaebel, she is a committed advocate for the arts.
Robert Luckin - Redding City Hall
Robert Luckin, a Redding resident, lived most of his life on the East Coast. Robert is a self-taught pen and ink artist, became a printmaker and over the last 39 years and has printed many stereographs, etchings and stone litho editions. He now draws on a Wacom pad connected to a Mac G5 Computer. Photoshop CS2 is his studio, an Epson 4800 his printer. Winning many awards he has shown his fine art in galleries from Maine to California.
Jan Scanlin - Redding Library
Jan Scanlin has been involved in art most of her life. Glass, especially sandblasted, has captured her imagination for the last twenty years. She built a business providing "functional art" for residences and businesses. Currently Jan is exploring with "out of the box" approaches and combinations of various media, such as slumped glass, stone and metals.
Anderson New Technology High School - Redding City Hall
Anderson New Technology High School is a challenging alternative environment. The strong academic emphasis is complemented by the success of the Traditional Arts, Digital Imaging, Graphic Design and Music courses. Students are prepared for college and beyond, including working and presenting in the business world. Student, parents and staff are essential ingredients in creating our "Small School Community, World Class Education."
City of Redding Employees - Redding City Hall
This exhibit of digitally created images showcases the artistic expressions of City of Redding employees. These artists represent the full diversity of City operations, holding positions ranging from clerk to assistant fire marshal, and representing City functions from Solid Waste to Geographic Information Systems to the Redding Fire Department. Each artist has captured or created images using digital media that reveal their special vision of the world around us.
