2009 Community Creek Clean-up

The 4th Annual Creek Clean-up on October 3, 2009 was a tremendous success! From 8am to mid-afternoon, numerous volunteers cleared invasive vegetation from along the south side of the Sacramento River Trail between the Diestelhorst and Stress Ribbon bridges. The Himalayan Blackberry bushes and Ailanthus trees were removed using chainsaws, rakes and good old-fashioned sweat labor. These were fed into chippers to be used a mulch along the trail. The result is that in many locations you can now view the Sacramento River from the trail. In addition, a previously hidden historic auto camp was uncovered, one which was run by the Diestelhorst sisters.

In-kind donors include: Redding Record Searchlight, KRCR, North State Ice, Trader Joe's, Ch2M Hill, JMS Industries, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Kristin's Apples (Kristin & Ray Toney), the Shops at Placer Heights, Whiskeytown Environmental School, Redding Municipal Utilities, CA Coastal Commission.

Many different community organizations and clubs participated in force, including:
