  • Art in City Hall - 2008 Exhibiting Artists

The City of Redding's Art in Public Places Program seeks to enrich the community and enhance civic pride through the installation of art. Our mission is to augment public spaces throughout the city with works of art ranging from paintings, murals and outdoor sculptures to functional works integrated into architecture and community infrastructure. These additions aim to transform public works into artworks and public areas from the commonplace into sites reflecting the spirit of our dynamic community.

This City program is administered by the Community Services Department with input from the Art in Public Places Committee.

    "Art in City Hall" Program

You might be surprised to learn that the largest art gallery in Redding is the Redding Civic Center. The artworks on display at City Hall have been carefully selected by the Art in Public Places Committee to provide an engaging experience for your enjoyment. Prices lists are available and, unless otherwise noted, all the temporarily exhibited works are available for purchase directly from the artist.

New exhibits are usually hung in February, June and October, although this schedule is subject to change for special showings (such as the A.G. Edwards Corporate Art Collection scheduled for this spring). Exhibitors are chosen via an annual Call to Artists held each fall. View the list of our 2008 exhibitors.

Please visit our Online Gallery to view selections from past and current exhibitions.

The Sculpture Park at City Hall

Inside the Redding Civic Center you will find the largest art gallery in Redding. A public sculpture park on the City Hall campus logically expands the successful "Art in City Hall" initiative to the outdoors, while at the same time creates a new venue for special events.

The Sculpture Park at City Hall offers a mixture of permanent works and traveling exhibits displayed along a winding trail amidst water features and decorative plantings. For more details on this project, please visit The Sculpture Park at City Hall web site.

    Art in Public Places Committee

The City of Redding's Art in Public Places Committee was instituted in November of 1998 by City Manager Mike Warren. The charge of this committee was to look for opportunities where public art could be incorporated into City projects and activities. The Committee's accomplishments run the gamut from decorative manhole covers to downtown street revitalizations to the selection of works for the various indoor and outdoor exhibitions hosted by the City of Redding at City Hall.
