Born and raised in Shasta County, Missy McArthur received a secondary teaching credential from California State University-Chico, a M.A. from the University of San Francisco, and a Physician Assistant Credential from Stanford University.
Missy has a diverse employment history which includes teacher in the Shasta Union High School District; family planning counselor; Physician Assistant at UCD/Stanford, Mercy Medical Center and Women's Medical Center; faculty member of the Stanford Physician Assistant Program; and practice administrator for Shasta Emergency Medical Group. Missy also has an entrepreneurial background having owned the following businesses: Fireplace Shop, Redding Title Company, Santa Cruz Title Company, Trinity County Title Company, and Women's Medical Center.
Missy's community service is quite extensive, and she has served on numerous boards and committees such as: Shasta Library Foundation, Library Citizen's Advisory Committee, Library Review Committee, Chair of the Library Governance and Financing Task Force, New Library Now!, Methamphetamine Task Force, Kids' Kingdom - Project Playground, Turtle Bay Board of Regents, American Heart Association, Women's Refuge Auxiliary, American Cancer Society, Help Line, Inc., Plus One Mentors, Shasta College Foundation, Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District Trustee, CSU Chico President's Advisory Board, YMCA, and Redding Rotary.
She was elected to the Redding City Council on November 4, 2008, and served a one-year term as Mayor in 2011. Missy has one son, Rob, and lives her passion of family, faith, friends, literacy, education, and community.
Liaison Assignments: In 2011, Missy served as Council liaison to the Community Services and Public Works Departments, the Community Development Advisory Committee, the Community Services Advisory Commission, Alternate to the Local Agency Formation Commission, League of California Cities, the McConnell Foundation, and Alternate to the Planning Commission and Veterans' Home. 2012 assignments are pending.
