The GIS Division provides mapping and information services to most city departments and divisions.  Our mission is to continue to integrate GIS technology into the City of Redding departmental workflows and business processes to increase productivity and improve efficiency. The GIS Division is committed to delivering high-quality spatial and attribute data to the desktops of our customers, both internal and external, so as to allow better decisions to be made based on the best available information.

This site has several pages that will tell you a little bit about the City of Redding GIS program, provide you with some GIS data for download in .SHP format, stock maps for download in .PDF format, and a set of links that we have found to be valuable to our staff.  You can now go directly to our Mapguide Interactive Map page as well.

The GIS Division currently provides the following services for most city departments and divisions:

  • Routine and ad-hoc maps and exhibits for city commissions, boards, and City Council
  • Standard and custom maps and exhibits for most city departments and divisions
  • Specialized maps, exhibits, and analysis for special projects and economic development projects
  • Spatial and attribute data creation, spatial and attribute data maintenance, for hundreds of city-wide GIS data layers
  • Database design and management for spatial and attribute data for city departments and divisions
  • Integration of enterprise departmental and specialized databases with spatial data for special maps, analysis and reports
  • GIS support for EnerGov permit tracking system for the Development Services Department
  • Map atlas books for Water, Wastewater, and Storm Drain Divisions
  • City-wide situs address map atlas books for public safety
  • Maintain Intranet and Internet interactive map services for internal staff and the public, using 2 web mapping sites
  • Data export and delivery, including reports, in a variety of formats, for spatial and attribute data, to internal and outside engineers, consultants, agencies, and the public
  • Mobile GIS for data collection and field inspections using hand-held devices, Tablet PC's and laptops, including city-wide infrastructure data on laptops for utility crews and Fire Department personnel
  • Support for Cartegraph Maintenance Management System (MMS) for the Public Works Department
  • GIS support for Crossroads traffic collision software for public safety
  • Small and large-format scanning of maps and images, including georeferencing and conversion from raster to vector
  • Map graphics and graphic exports in a variety of formats for inclusion in Word and Wordperfect, Powerpoint, and for publishing of notices and in newsletters
