Welcome . . .

to the City of Redding
Economic Development Program Web Page

The City of Redding is the center of trade and commerce for the upstate region of northern California. Redding is the largest city north of Sacramento, with a population of 90,000, and is strategically located on Interstate 5, equidistant between Seattle and Los Angeles.   Redding has grown as a thriving business community; and, as such, the Redding City Council places significant value on both the companies that are here and the ones that will relocate or expand from other areas.

The City of Redding is a partner in the SHASTA METRO ENTERPRISE ZONE, which provides significant State tax credits and other benefits to both existing and new companies.

THE CITY OF REDDING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The City of Redding Economic Development Program web page is designed to provide information and linkages to other area resources that can assist companies in a variety of economic development needs.

Redding, as part of a countywide focus, is interested in creating more primary industry employment, both through the expansion of existing industry and the recruitment of new industry.   Diversifying the economy to create higher wage employment is a top priority.

It is this focus that has given the Redding City Council the foresight to invest in both the Airport Business Park and its newest economic development asset, the Stillwater Business Park.   In today's business environment where "time is of the essence," Redding realizes the importance of providing large "ready-to-go sites" for companies seeking a west coast presence.

The City of Redding also places a significant priority on the retention and expansion of its existing business base and works collaboratively with other local organizations to assist local companies in a number of ways.  This collaborative, called Shasta Biz, provides a network of services, such as the Cascade Small Business Development Center.

The basis for the City of Redding's Economic Development Program is the City of Redding General Plan Economic Development Element that was produced as part of a complete update in 2000.   This document provides the guidance for Redding's future, with goals and objectives that provide a clear focus in various economic development sectors.
