The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for administering fire safety education, fire cause determination, inspection of high hazard occupancies, fire code enforcement, and vegetation management.  A great deal of the public contact achieved by the Department is a direct result of the Fire Prevention programs.  These programs check code compliance and proper life safety standards.

The Division is staffed with one Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal, two Fire Inspector/Investigators, and one Fire Prevention Specialist.   In addition to the Bureau staff, all personnel assigned to the Operations Division carry a great deal of responsibility of assisting in the Fire Prevention mission of the Department.

Our programs are here to serve you so please let us know if we have not met your needs by calling (530) 225-4141.

Emergency Preparedness

The City of Redding believes in being prepared for any disaster which may occur for our region.   We encourage you also to be prepared and self-reliant for at least 72 hours.  Check www.72hours.org for more information.  Do maintain extra supplies   such as water, food and flashlights to help you should a disaster occur.   The Red Cross has prepared lists to assist you in preparing for 72 hours.   The City does have an Emergency Operations Center to help coordinate information and resources should the City experience a large event.

Fire Prevention Inspections

The Department continues an aggressive posture towards fire and life safety inspections of all commercial occupancies.   These inspections include care facilities, licensed by the State of California , inspections of newly opened businesses, and occupancies requiring California Fire Code permits.

Burn Permits

The City of Redding and Buckeye Fire Protection District issues burn permits for backyard burning.

Burn Permits can now be purchased through our online permit process.
