The Fire Prevention Division
is responsible for administering
fire safety education, fire cause determination, inspection of high hazard occupancies, fire code enforcement,and vegetation management. A great deal of the public
contact achieved by the Department is a direct result
of the Fire Prevention programs. These programs check code compliance and proper life safety standards.
The
Division is staffed with one Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal, two Fire Inspector/Investigators,
and one
Fire Prevention Specialist. In addition to
the Bureau staff, all personnel assigned to the Operations Division carry a great deal of
responsibility of assisting in the Fire Prevention
mission of the Department.

Emergency Preparedness
The City of Redding believes in being prepared for any disaster which may occur for our region. We encourage you also to be prepared and self-reliant for at least 72 hours. Check www.72hours.org for more information. Do maintain extra supplies such as water, food and flashlights to help you should a disaster occur. The Red Cross has prepared lists to assist you in preparing for 72 hours. The City does have an Emergency Operations Center to help coordinate information and resources should the City experience a large event.
Fire Prevention Inspections
The
Department continues an aggressive posture towards
fire and life safety inspections of all commercial
occupancies. These inspections
include care facilities, licensed by the State of
California , inspections of newly opened businesses,
and occupancies requiring California Fire Code permits.
Burn Permits
The
City of Redding and Buckeye Fire Protection District
issues burn permits for backyard burning.
Burn Permits can now be purchased through our online permit process.
