Training activities are scheduled on a quarterly basis. The scheduling and delivery of training is administered by the Deputy Chief in charge of the Operations and Training Division. The Department strives to deliver a wide range of relevant training which includes State and Federally mandated topics, as well as discretionary subjects. All personnel are scheduled to participate in 20 hours of training each month. Additionally, many of our employees continue to expand their knowledge base by attending both fire service related and advanced degree courses on their own.

The Department has a two week orientation and training program for new Firefighters. This program is intended to provide the new employee with a sound overview of Department operations prior to their being assigned to an engine company. This training is administered by a Fire Captain specifically assigned this responsibility for the two week period. With assistance from CAL Fire, Shasta/Trinity Ranger Unit, the Department developed training and experience criteria for various Incident Command System positions
