ABOUT THE POSITION


Salary Range: $5,430 to $8,618 per month

The City of Redding Electric Utility is accepting applications for Electric Utility Engineer. The successful candidate will, under minimal supervision, assist Power Operations management in developing, supporting, monitoring, instituting, and overseeing programs and procedures to ensure safe, reliable, environmentally sound, legal, operation and maintenance of power system facilities and will oversee and participate in Power Operations capital projects.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES


Perform a variety of regulatory compliance and support tasks; coordinate, monitor, and/or oversee Power Operations health, safety, and environmental compliance programs; support Power Operations by completing engineering and design projects as well as providing technical evaluation of Power Operations issues; participate as a team member or team leader in the conception and/or completion of capital projects; provide support for assigned technical equipment and systems; monitor power plant or power system component performance to identify performance changes; and perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge of: Power plant and/or power system engineering, operations, and maintenance; regulatory compliance in air emissions, water quality, waste handling, hazardous materials handling, safety and health, DOT pipeline, and NERC; control and communication systems, SCADA, and energy accounting.

Ability to: Interact effectively with the Power Operations team, contractors, visitors to the Power Operations facilities, and the public; demonstrate good oral and written communication skills and supervisory skills; evaluate government regulations and industry standards and apply them to Power Operations methods of conducting business; troubleshoot a variety of problems stemming from electrical power generating facility/equipment operations and maintenance; and work with minimal supervision.

Education/Experience: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying; typical education would include a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college, university, or equivalent. Typical experience would include three years relevant experience in one or more of the following: NERC Reliability Standards, PHMSA gas pipeline compliance, WECC reliability criteria, health and safety regulatory compliance, industrial or construction regulatory compliance, environmental regulatory compliance, power generation process engineering, power plant operation, and/or project management.

Special Requirements: Possession of the appropriate valid California driver's license or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment. Possession of an Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT). Three years of additional relevant experience, or a relevant advanced college degree, may be substituted for the EIT.

Veterans Credit: Veterans who have received an honorable discharge from the military service and receive a passing score on the examination will have 2 points added to their final examination score. To obtain this credit, veterans MUST provide a copy of the DD214, indicating honorable discharge, WITH EACH EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE.

Test Requirements: An oral board examination will be administered.
