ABOUT THE POSITION
Police Officer - Lateral
Wage Range: $27.85 - $39.18 per hour

The City of Redding is establising an eligibility list
to fill current and future Lateral Police Officer vacancies. We are seeking motivated
individuals with a strong commitment toward providing excellent service
to the members of the community. The Mission of the Redding police
Department is to work in partnership with the community to protect life
and property, solve neighborhood problems, and enhance the quality of
life in our City.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Perform all classes of law enforcement work including, but not limited
to, patrol assigned beat enforcing laws
and maintaining order. Examples include: traffic law enforcement,
regulation enforcement, crime prevention
and crime investigation from complaint to final solution of cases.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Practices and procedures of police
science and administration; criminal law, City ordinances
and regulations; investigation and crime prevention methods; rules of
evidence and laws governing the apprehension, arrest, custody and
prosecution of law violators; and effective public relations.
Ability to: Interact effectively with the
public and employees. Read, understand, and carry out departmental
policies, rules, instructions, laws and regulations; analyze situations
and adopt a quick, effective and reasonable
course of action; write clear and accurate reports; understand and
follow oral directions; learn the use and care
of automobiles, motorcycles, and small fire arms; make detailed
observations, recall names, personal
descriptions, and details of incidents; meet standards of adequate
physical stature, endurance and agility.
Education & Experience: To qualify
candidates must currently be working with another law enforcement
agency or meet California
P.O.S.T. standards for a Police Officer and have not been separated
from employment as a Police Officer for
more than three years, must possess a high school diploma or
equivalent, must have completed 30 semester
college units, 60 semester units desirable, must possess a current
Basic P.O.S.T. certificate, have completed
probation, and have at least one year of "street"
experience with a municipality, Sheriff's Office or equivalent.
Applicants with custodial (jail) experience only are tested as entry
level. Candidates must provide proof of
P.O.S.T. certification upon application deadline.
Special Requirements: Current Basic POST
certificate; possession of the appropriate California driver's license,
or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
A medical examination must be completed satisfactorily after
an offer of employment and before the start date
to ensure essential elements of the position can be performed;
candidates must successfully complete a
psychological evaluation, personal background investigation, polygraph
examination, and a substance use test.

RPOA Information
Veterans' Credit: Veterans who have
received an honorable discharge from the military service and receive a
passing score on the examination will have 2 points added to their
final examination score. To obtain this credit, veterans MUST provide a
copy of the DD214, indicating honorable discharge, WITH EACH EMPLOYMENT
APPLICATION.
Test Requirements: The testing phase will
include an oral board examination, Chief's Interview, a comprehensive
background investigation, psychological, medical, and polygraph
examination.

Documentation of eligibility to work in the United States (i.e,
driver’s license, social security card, or birth certificate, or
documentation authorizing work in the United States) will be required
as a condition of employment.
