How do I file a claim for monetary damages against the City?
Claim forms are available at the City of Redding Civic Center, 777 Cypress Avenue at Risk Management Office, 2nd floor, or at the City Clerk's Office, 3rd floor. The form may also be requested by calling the Risk Management Office at (530) 225-4452. Claims must be filed with the City within six (6) months of the date of incident.
What happens to the claim after it is filed?
After a claim is filed, it is forwarded to the City's third party administrator for handling. One of the claims adjustors will contact the claimant to discuss the claim and determine damages. The Risk Management Office also conducts an in-house investigation. The results are forwarded to the claims adjustor who subsequently reports to the City whether the claim should be accepted or denied.
Is this the same thing as small claims court?
No, small claims court is part of the Shasta County Courts. However, before filing an action with the small claims court, a claim must first have been filed with the City and rejected.
How do I purchase special event insurance certificate through the City?
Contact the Risk Management Office at (530) 225-4452 to obtain a quote for your event. An application may be requested at that time or it can be downloaded from the City's web page. Mail the completed application along with a check for the amount of the quote to Risk Management, or bring it in to the Risk Management Office and a certificate will be issued at that time. Typically the special event insurance certificate is purchased at least thirty (30) days prior to the event.
