The Solid Waste Utility offers programs to assist customers with special disposal needs or those who have physical limitations. The Special Pickup program is available for residential customers who need to dispose of bulky items such as furniture and appliances. The Community Assistance Program, or CAP program, is for customers with physical limitations.
This program is ideal for customers that don't have the means or transportation to bring items to the Transfer Station for disposal or recycling. The program is especially helpful to those that are elderly, frail or disabled.
The cost for this service is a base rate of $44.00 per trip (which covers labor, equipment and fuel) plus the cost of disposing of each individual item. For example, if you have a couch that you want to get rid of but don't have a way to haul it yourself, you can call the Solid Waste Utility and request a special pickup. The cost would be the base rate of $44.00 plus $7.00 to dispose of the couch. Disposal costs vary depending on the type of item.
The maximum number of items that can be picked up per location per trip is six. Items must be placed within six feet of the curb for collection before the driver arrives. Drivers are prohibited from entering homes, garages, yards, etc.
To request this service, please call the Solid Waste Utility at 224-6201. Please allow at least 24-hour notice before service is needed.
The Solid Waste Utility offers assistance to the frail, elderly and disabled. The CAP program is designed to help those who are physically unable to bring their carts to the curb or a location where it can be collected by one of our automated collection vehicles. In many cases the frail, elderly or disabled cannot rely on someone else to place their carts in a proper location for collection and replace them again after collection. City Solid Waste collection personnel can retrieve the carts from a visible storage location and replace them after they have been emptied.
To see if you qualify for this service, please call 224-6201 to speak with one of our Customer Service Representatives. After answering a few questions over the phone, a form will be sent to you. Once the form is returned and approved, your address will be placed on an exempt list for the appropriate drivers routes.
