Permits and Fees
The following permits are processed by the Engineering Division. As a convenience we have made them available online for review and printing. Completed applications should be mailed or hand delivered for processing to the Permit Center located on the first floor of the Civic Center, 777 Cypress Avenue, Redding, CA 96001. Associated documentation and/or maps will need to be submitted with the applications. To ascertain the charges associated with a specific permit request, please reference the City's current Fee Schedule.

Encroachment Application/Permit
An Encroachment Permit is required anytime underground or aerial work is to be done within a City of Redding easement or right of way. This permit must be obtained prior to the start of work.
Grading Permit and Clearing Permit Application
Prior to commencement or performance of clearing, grading, importing, or exporting of any earth material, a Grading Permit or a Clearing Permit must be acquired. A separate permit is required for each site, but may include the entire operation at the site. When grading is to be done within fifty feet of a seasonal watercourse or in the one-hundred-year floodplain of a stream, creek or river, a permit shall be required in all cases.

Transportation Application/Permit
Whenever a vehicle exceeds maximum allowable width, length, height and/or weight standards for travel on City streets, a Transportation Permit is required. You may reference the following standards for assistance in determining whether or not a particular vehicle or load will require such a permit:
- Width -- Any vehicle over 8'6" in outside width.
- Length -- Refer to California Vehicle Code Sections 35400 through 35414.
- Height -- Any vehicle exceeding 14' from surface on which the vehicle is located to its highest point.
- Weight -- Refer to California Vehicle Code Sections 35550 through 35796.
